Abstract
The article discusses the study of Italian Romanesque sculpture at the beginning of the third millennium in Italy. The author mentions the role of regionalism in the study of Italian Romanesque sculpture and the physical fragmentation caused by the emphasis on regionalism. She also stresses the history and historiography of Italian Romanesque sculpture which is impossible to envision without reference to France for matters French have long colored virtually every aspect of the discipline in Italy. She cites discussions concerning the relationship between French and Italian Romanesque sculpture which have taken several forms.
