Abstract
Locating the spray nozzle to provide optimum coverage of the windshield under a wide range of driving conditions is largely a trial-and-error experimental process for the designer. In this paper a computational model is presented that will initially locate the nozzle and thus reduce wind-tunnel and/or road test time. The computer program is easy to use and the calculation time is short on a 486 PC. Comparisons between model and experiment are presented which show that the model generally predicts the experimental strike point to within 13 per cent. Parametric studies show the effects of spray velocity, car speed, fluid density, droplet size and nozzle location.
