Abstract
This article focuses on key health policy issues related to physician health resources. Using the 1991 Barer/Stoddart report, Toward Integrating Medical Resource Policies for Canada, as the starting point for discussion, the author examines such issues as the number and geographic distribution of physicians, reimbursement, licensing standards, specialty mix and scope of practice. The article concludes with recommendations for future directions in public policy.
