Abstract
The article reports on the sale of modern Chinese paintings at Sotheby's in Hong Kong on May 18, 1989. It is mentioned that by far, the May 18 auction has been the most successful sale held in the Hong Kong branch. The auction features paintings from various artists including a group from an anonymous private collection with artists like Wu Ch'ang-shuo, Ch'i Pai-shih, and Wang Chen, three modern masters of hsieh-ye, the tradition of idea writing, which fashions a style of bold, expressive, brushwork. The prices of the paintings along with names of the participating artists are also mentioned.
