Abstract
The article focuses on the artist Philip Guston cartoonish mode: freedom. Topics include considered that at the opening of the exhibition at Marlborough Gallery in October 1970, where Guston first showed all his hood paintings, Willem de Kooning embraced his friend and told him that the ‘real subject' of his paintings was freedom.
