Abstract
The article discusses the increasing number of private docks in Lowcountry waterways in Charleston, South Carolina. The Lowcountry is known for its tidal salt marsh creek. Too many docks can damage water quality and aquatic life. The Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management issues dock construction permits at a rate of approximately 1,000 per year. There is a need for the state to implement specific dock standards.
