Abstract
We have described recent developments of immunologic markers for prostatic cancer and their clinical evaluation for diagnosis of this disease. Although each assay method has some advantages and disadvantages, all methods have features of immunologic specificity and sensitivity, endowing them some clinical usefulness. At the present stage of development, prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) and prostate-specific antigen (PA) and their combination assay are the most useful tool for diagnosis of prostate cancer and for monitoring the clinical status of patients. The recent remarkable development of hybridoma technology has offered us a new avenue for prostatic cancer research and hopefully will provide additional useful markers in the not-too-distant future.
