The article reports on uterine fibroids, one of the most common tumors among women, and discusses its epidemiology and aetiology, environmental factors, diagnosis, symptoms, management and treatment. Uterine fibroids are two to three times more common in obese women, and genetic and hereditary causes are also indicated. Uterine artery embolisation is a safe, effective and well-established radiological technique used in the management of symptomatic fibroids as an alternative to myomectomy.
