Abstract
The article discusses a research that examined the effects of pistachio snack and refined carbohydrate snack consumption on body weight and lipid levels in obese patients. Patients were randomly assigned to consume one of two weight reduction diets for 12 weeks, each included an afternoon snack of either salted pistachios or salted pretzels. Results show that both groups lost weight, but there are significant differences in body mass changes, with the pistachio group showing greater reduction. Triglycerides are significantly lower in the pistachio group.
