Abstract
This article focuses on a study in which leukotriene B4, a product of arachidonic acid metabolism via the 5-lipoxygenase pathway, has been detected in involved skin of patients with chronic plaque psoriasis, using a skin chamber technique. Skin of normal individuals and of the involved and uninvolved areas of patients with untreated psoriasis was carefully abraded to the glistening layer under magnified vision. Skin chambers were applied to abraded sites and filled with phosphate buffered saline. The findings suggest that leukotriene may have a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, either in the initial recruitment of neutrophils or maintenance of neutrophil immigration into the involved skin.
