Abstract
The article presents a study promoting mammography use among low-income rural African American Women in the U.S. The study uses the randomized trial participated by the African American women including the women who were not able to obtain a mammogram. The results show that there were no group differences in mammography rates in the second 6-months follow-up, however, women who had never had mammogram was more effective in prompting mammography use. Tailored counseling is said to be an effective screening promotion strategy for hard-to-reach rural African American women with no history screening. Further research into the strategy facilitate efforts to reduce health disparities in underserved low-income rural African American populations.
