Abstract
The article examines the means by which parents influence their children's use of smokeless tobacco. Subjects of the article were a subsample of a group of participants in a larger research project on adolescent tobacco use. The relationship between intention to use smokeless tobacco and anticipated parental response has been analyzed. The results of the article indicate that parents exert significant influence over their children's intention to use smokeless tobacco. The absence of any significant difference across grades in terms of the proportion of variance in intention explained by parent variables suggests that parental influence is important not only for pre-adolescents but for early adolescents as well.
