Abstract
The article focuses on revisiting the historical narrative around Shakespeare's First Folio's entry into the Bodleian Library, challenging the notion that its arrival marked the lifting of a ban on English playbooks. It explores primary sources to reveal the overlooked pre-1624 presence of English playbooks in the library, questioning the prevailing narrative's accuracy and shedding light on a critical historiographical oversight.
