Abstract
The article presents information on the Brain Awareness Week (BAW). For the people of all ages, BAW has been established to learn about the brain and nerve system in an informal learning environment. BAW is organized by a national nonprofit group of neuroscientists called Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives and the Society for Neuroscience. Science teachers are offered by BAW to learn about the brain. BAW organize a neuroscience science fair. An open house for 300 local students has been cosponsored by the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington, Washington and the Making Connection/Making Choices program in the School of Nursing. Before attending the open house, teachers are encouraged to prepare their students by discussing physiology and anatomy of the nervous system. Each student receives a BAW button with a plastic bag and teachers receive a CD-ROM at the open house. A transcranial Doppler machine that measures flow of the blood connects students with nerve system. The article also offers a photograph that features some students holding brains in their hands.
