Abstract
The article discusses the different surgical and medical treatments for managing perforated colonic diverticulum in older patients. It details the best clinical practice for elderly patients with diverticulitis and colonic perforation with peritonitis. It notes that a good quality initial assessment through a clear history and comprehensive physical examination is vital. It adds that initial management and use of antibiotics are needed for basic supportive treatment.
