Abstract
The article explores the impact of a severe injury on the athlete's identity. Topics discussed include how injured athletes are at risk for multiple negative responses, the process in implementing the Athletic Identity Measurement Scale and the relationship between severity of injury and athletic identity. Also mentioned are the benefits and disadvantages of having a strong athletic identity and the result of their observation of 125 athletes who suffered severe injuries.
