Abstract
This article focuses on the facilitation of the growth of an allogeneic tumour by suppressor cells in newborn rats. Not only do neonatal rodents have an impaired capacity to mount humoral immune responses, but they frequently support the growth of allogeneic and xenogeneic tumours which are successfully rejected by adult hosts. Their poor antibody-forming capacity and their suitability as hosts for transplanted foreign tumours are both generally considered to reflect the absence or immaturity of cells required to mount the appropriate immune response in these animals.
