Abstract
This article focuses on the development of a blood-screening assay for symptomatic variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) patients and asymptomatic carriers. It discusses the characteristics of vCJD, the diagnostic sensitivity and analytical specificity of the assay, and preclinical detection of abnormal prions in plasma.
