Abstract
The article explains the characteristics of donkeys and how they affect treatment. It describes the physical features of donkeys and their behavioral expression of pain compared with horses. It outlines differences in the treatment of donkeys compared with equines that include examination of evidence of subclinical disease prior to anesthesia, coping with dehydration, tendency to lean into a needle when injected, and resistance to the effects of anaesthesia.
