Discusses a part of the travel book, 'Gleanings in Europe: France,' by James Fenimore Cooper which details the writer's adventures and affection with an old naval acquaintance who turned up in Paris, France. Establishment of the identity of the naval friend as Captain Woolsey; Absence of a mention of Cooper's reunion with Woolsey in Paris in his book, 'Lives of Distinguished American Naval Officers.'
