Abstract
The article discusses a study in which tracer phosphorus was added to the Bluff Lake near Halifax in Nova Scotia, to examine the customary loss of nutrients from water. The behavior of a few marked atoms were studied through this. The experiment was conducted under the doubt whether the disappearance of big additions of fertilizers to lakes should be taken as evidence of plant or animal growth stimulation. It was observed that there was a rapid loss of nutrients from the water and uptake by aquatic life and mud, when phosphorus was added. It was also noticed that after fertilizer is added to a lake, there is a time period of a few weeks during which the phosphorus content of the water remains high. Blooms of zooplankton and algae were observed during this time interval.
