Abstract
This article discusses the construction of the Ballinger Way portal at Brightwater water treatment facilities in King County, Washington. The joint venture team handling the construction of the portal is Vince Grand Projects/Parsons/Frontier-Kemper Constructors. The team has tested slurry wall techniques and ground freezing for earth support. Design and installation of a perimeter array of deep wells were handled by Moretrench. One of the challenges in the project was the construction of a deep shaft in changing ground conditions.
