Abstract
The article discusses the new pandemic response phase "Protect" announced by the Australian government, on June 17, 2009, and the new technical annex to the Australian Health Management Plan for Pandemic Influenza (AHMPPI) for this phase, which includes an updated infection control recommendation. It explains the main objective of infection control which is to prevent potentially serious diseases that affect health care workers (HCWs), other patients and community members.
