Abstract
The article reports that parenteral prostacyclins are recommended for the treatment of severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) with efficacy related to positive inotropic effects on the right ventricle (RV). It mentions about early in vitro studies drug-induced decrease in afterload arterial elastance accompanied by paradoxical decrease in contractility end-systolic elastance preserving RV–pulmonary arterial coupling.
