Abstract
The article discusses a study which found that ADAM8 enhances osteoclast precursor fusion and osteoclast formation in vitro and in vivo. The researchers generated tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)-ADAM8 transgenic mice that overexpress ADAM 8 in the osteoclast lineage and ADAM8 knockout mice in order to determine the effects of modulating ADAM expression. Results suggest the potential of ADAM to be a therapeutic target for preventing bone destruction associated with inflammatory disease.
