Abstract
In this article, the author claims that the Aleut people in Alaska and Nikolskoye in Russia are facing such challenges as loss of biodiversity and rising sea level. The author contends that for these people, who both rely on fishing for majority of their subsistence, adapting to the challenges is not easy. The article also discusses concerns of Aleut people about fishery regulations that are not sensitive to traditional subsistence harvesting and the connection between subsistence and culture.
