Abstract
The article focuses on the potential economic effects of a binding federal debt limit. It discussed the topics include the impact on spending, prioritization of payments, the perception of risk on U.S. Treasury securities, the cost of servicing the federal debt, effects on financial markets and the domestic economy and the impact of other cuts to federal spending. It discussed that the binding debt limit could lead to delayed or partial payments, threats to global markets and global economy.
