The article presents an essay about the scientific work on the marine environmental history. The author clearly explains that the ocean has become essential for environmental historians and people for centuries. Overfishing, habitat destruction, and biological invasions became evident with focus on its tragic influence. However, the history of human interactions with marine environments are still not yet examined. This calls the historians to accept the challenge to make a study on the ocean.
