Abstract
The article presents data of one of a multiyear series of marine mammal line-transect surveys in the eastern tropical Pacific with information on sighting data, identification photographs, and biopsies of blue whales. A proposal declaring the Galapagos region as a wintering destination of the eastern South Pacific population (ESP) blue whale population is outlined. The critical role of identifying habitat areas for the implementation of marine protected area (MPA) networks is also tackled.
