Abstract
The article focuses on the opportunities offered by a papermaking class at Nantucket Island School of Design & the Arts (NISDA) in Massachusetts. Carol Putnam, a professional artist and papermaker of Maine, has designed the course at NISDA to be flexible to allow seasoned papermakers to benefit from the program. The papermaking class is one of the parallel technical courses offered and it can be taken as a full-time course or as an elective within the school's larger program. Aside from papermaking, the school offers courses on clay art, printmaking, photography, performance, and modern dance.
