Abstract
Summary: The story of holism was not one of complete triumph, however. During the 1970s, the postwar version of holism lost its communal thrust and organizing vision; it faded into individualistic pursuits and diminished in power. Still, it did not disappear entirely. As America entered the twenty-first century, holistic ideas continued to influence the culture in important ways.
