Abstract
Summary: As a history of attitudes about homosexuality in the United States, this study provides a parallel to the extensive body of scholarship about racial, ethnic, and gender stereotypes in American culture and the ways in which such stereotypes have constructed, reinforced, and maintained hierarchies of social and sexual power.
