Abstract
According to a report by ProPublica, US drug-enforcement agents have evidence suggesting that President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's 2006 presidential campaign in Mexico received around $2 million in funding from drug cartels. The investigation did not determine whether Lopez Obrador was aware of the donations. Similar investigations were published by German outlet DW News and think-tank InSight Crime. Despite growing narco violence and disapproval of his security policies, Lopez Obrador remains popular and has a good chance of his party's candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, being elected as his successor.
