Abstract
The article discusses competition among large stock brokers and the comparative success of Merrill Lynch. It describes an intense rivalry that exists between Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Also noted is the fact that each company is headed by executives who moved from one of the firms to the other including current Merrill Lynch director Sallie Krawcheck and Smith Barney chief executive James P. Gorman.
