Abstract
The article explores the determinants and dynamics of National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) affiliation. Topics discussed include role of networks in determining NBER membership, especially having same-sex colleagues and advisors who are NBER members; plan on studying the effects of NBER membership on subsequent productivity and promotion; and mental health issues in high proportion of both men and women in economics.
