Abstract
Jorge Alvarez Maynez, a candidate in Mexico's presidential election, is facing pressure to withdraw from the race and support Xochitl Galvez, the main opposition coalition contender. Alejandro Moreno, the head of the PRI party, has offered to step down from his role and candidacy if Maynez withdraws before a presidential debate on May 19. Maynez's party member, Luis Donaldo Colosio, has also suggested that Maynez should consider stepping aside to give the opposition a better chance against President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's party. However, Maynez is currently in third place in the polls, with Claudia Sheinbaum leading with 59% of voter intention. The election will take place on June 2. [Extracted from the article]
