Abstract
The article discusses managing government regulation. Increasingly, consumers look to businesses and government to help them cope with economic downturns. An ongoing recession in 2008 has made more prominent the notion that some problems are too large to be effectively addressed without government intervention. When confronted with regulation some firms attempt to develop either a cooperative relationship, or assume an arm’s length, sometimes adversarial stance. A better approach charts a middle course of constructive engagement, wherein disagreements are inevitable but trust and cooperation can develop over the long term.
