Abstract
The article discusses the licensing of pharmaceutical compounds by drug manufacturers. In the past, pharmaceutical companies would develop a medical product from start to finish in its own laboratories. An increasing trend is to license compounds discovered by other companies to diversify product ranges and satisfy investors' growth expectations. The authors believe that while the practice of licensing compounds can be beneficial, the increasing competition is making it much more costly. They say that the cost of compounds is likely to increase, which makes finding the right partner and compound that much more important. The authors give advice on assessment of the compounds and finding the right partner.
