Abstract
The article presents a study on the effect of various factors on the caving behavior of strata and load in the performance of a longwall. Data has been taken by averaging the value compiled from longwall panels extracted in coal fields of India. Depth of coal seams, extraction height, thickness of the immediate roof, and horizontal stress are some of the parameters considered. The results from the study are reportedly helpful in improving the understanding of condition based caving mechanics of strata and the performance of powered roof support.
