Abstract
The article discusses the study of the formation, composition, and catalytic properties of nickel and copper-containing oxide layers on aluminum. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a method that makes use of high temperatures applied on a surface through electrolytic discharge. Using PEO, oxide layers with nickel and copper compounds showing catalytic characteristics are obtained. It was found that hydrogen is responsible for reducing Cu to lower oxidation state.
