Abstract
This article, titled "Systematic catheterization of the terminal ileum: what is the diagnostic contribution?" explores the controversy surrounding the use of systematic catheterization of the terminal ileum (TI) during colonoscopy. The study, conducted over four years, included 508 colonoscopies, with TI catheterization performed in 110 cases. The most common indications for colonoscopy were chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rectal bleeding. Abnormalities in the terminal ileum were observed in 70.9% of cases, with Crohn's disease being the most common diagnosis. The authors suggest that the decision to perform systematic ileal intubation should be made on a case-by-case basis, but it should be considered if Crohn's disease is suspected.
