Abstract
The article presents an overview of the Peruvian archaeology from 1976 to 1986. Archaeology in Peru has a unique character derived from its distinct subject matter, particular intellectual history, political context and the significant figures who have helped developed it. Most of the archaeological projects carried out in the country remained resistant to many of theoretical trends in processual Anglo-American archeology. American scholars played a significant role in shaping contemporary Peruvian archaeology. Most of the Peruvians in authority on the archaeological community such as Duccio Bonavia, Rosa Fung, Luis Lumbreras, Ramiro Matos and Roger Ravines were greatly influenced by North American specialists in Peruvian archaeology.
