Abstract
Research utilization is a very complex process, and that there are many barriers to overcome. Moreover, there is little mention of the role of external bodies, such as Local Education Authorities (LEA) in helping schools to access and use research. Clearly, LEAs have the potential to act as mediators between research, policy and practice. LEAs are increasingly active in carrying out their own data collection, interpreting data and initiating research. LEAs can help to build networks between educational professionals, and they can act as change agents in the dissemination and adoption of new ideas.
