Abstract
This article, published in the journal Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeon, explores the use of speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) to assess cardiac performance in patients undergoing mitral valve repair for primary mitral regurgitation (PMR). The study included 76 patients who underwent endoscopic mitral valve repair and were divided into two groups based on their LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) values. The results showed that LV GLS has the potential to predict short-term cardiac performance after mitral valve repair in PMR patients, suggesting that STE could be a valuable tool for evaluating cardiac performance and guiding surgical timing.
