Abstract
The article focuses the development of accurate diagnostics and preventive vaccines for vulvoginal candidiasis (VVC) and recurrent VVC (RVVC). Topics include the role of host immunity in Candida vaginitis, genetic polymorphisms in factors with putative importance for antifungal defense, Candida albicans as fungal pathogen, and the role of estrogen and vaginal mucosa in vaginitis progression. Also mentioned is the importance of the immune response to Candida vaginitis.
