Abstract
The authors comment on a study by J. G. Linakis and colleagues which reported a pediatric emergency-based study of screening for alcohol use. Topics discussed include the use in the study of a validated two-question screen from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the need of clinicians to provide age-appropriate, brief intervention to adolescents who drink, and importance of intervening as early as possible in the trajectory of developing alcohol use disorder (AUD).
