Abstract
Spectral aerosol optical depth is retrieved from solar irradiance spectra traceable to the SI via laboratory calibrations. The reference top of atmosphere solar spectra used for the AOD retrieval by these spectroradiometers (QASUME, QASUME-IR, PSR, and BTS) are the TSIS-1 HSRS or QASUMEFTS, giving very good agreement with the AOD retrieved by a collocated CIMEL from AERONET or a PFR from the GAWPFR network. This study has shown that spectral AOD between 300 nm and 2100 nm can be retrieved with standard uncertainties of about 0.01 when using well characterized and calibrated spectroradiometers.
