Abstract
A performance analysis of a solar photo voltaic system based cascade refrigeration system is conducted in this paper using engineering equation solver simulation software. Solar-electric set up is considered for the analysis of the system. Different refrigerant pairs have been chosen for analyzing the cascade vapour compression refrigeration system. Coefficient of performance (COP) and refrigerating effect values are evaluated and characteristic curves are plotted with the variation in hourly global irradiance data of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The effect of variation in hourly irradiance values in the month of April has been studied here. With the aim of lower environmental degradation, refrigerants with low GWP values are considered for this study. Also the evaporating temperature of the lower refrigerating unit on the COP has been varied and possible effects have been noted on the parameters. Highest COP was obtained by R744-R600 pair with a value of 0.6754 at 12pm, at -10°C as the evaporating temperature. The overall highest COP was obtained by R744-R600, when the evaporating temperature is 5°C. The result shows that proposed system is definitely a good alternate choice for fulfilling air conditioning expectations of human beings and for promoting healthy environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
