Abstract
An interview with poet and activist Demetria Martinez is presented. Asked if her creative work is a form of activism, she states that activism is creative work. She traces her commitment to immigrants' human rights to the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church. She states that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has displaced people and forced them north for work. She cites the late poet and activist Grace Paley as a formative influence on her work.
