Abstract
The most common site of infection was the lower respiratory tract (n=5,550, 29.1%), with common pathogens including I Staphylococcus aureus i (n=807, 14.5%) in all patients and I Pseudomonas aeruginosa i (n=745, 13.4%) in patients with chronic disease. Among select chronic diseases, infections in patients with a bone marrow transplant (n=471) or leukemia (n=1,361) were I Clostridium difficile i (n=77, 16.3% and n=198, 14.6%) and fungi (n=97, 20.6% and n=258, 18.9%), with high mortality among fungal infections (15.4% and 10.6%). Cancer or bone marrow transplant patients commonly have I Clostridium difficile i and they and those with congenital heart disease or dialysis dependence commonly have fungal infections.
